Our approach

TACET LIFE, LLC designs Tacet Player to collect as little personal information as practical. Tacet Player is primarily an on-device score, setlist, audio, practice, recording, and backup workspace. You do not need a Tacet account or sign-in to use it. We do not sell personal information or use app activity to track you across apps or websites.

Scope

This policy describes how Tacet Player handles information in the iPad app and in the corresponding desktop app where the same local-library features apply, together with support communications about the app. Apple-specific features described below apply to the iPad app and other distributions that include those features. Feature availability may differ by platform. This policy does not cover Tacet Lessons or Tacet Life.

This policy does not replace Apple's privacy terms for Apple Music, the App Store, StoreKit, iCloud or device backups, or other Apple services.

Information kept on your device

Depending on the features you use, Tacet Player stores:

  • Imported scores, images, MusicXML, setlists, shows, and related filenames or titles.
  • Imported local audio, recordings made in the app, optional preserved originals, separated stems, and waveform and practice state.
  • Annotations, typed notes, playback flags, A/B loops, page settings, mix levels, last-played state, preferences, and trash and recovery records.
  • User-created backups and export or share staging files until you remove them or use the app's cleanup controls.
  • Apple Music catalog or library identifiers, storefront, song, artist, and album metadata, artwork URLs, a bounded Recently Played list, and references attached to songs or Shows.
  • Full Access state, including locally cached verified StoreKit product and expiration evidence, pending or recovery state, and the start and expiry of the app-provided free month.

On iPad, the app-provided free-month record is stored in this device's Keychain and is not a Tacet account. It does not follow an Apple Account through Tacet, and Restore Purchases does not restore or restart it. StoreKit purchase records remain under Apple's account and transaction systems. Tacet caches only the minimum verified state needed to keep access usable and reconcile it later.

Scores, local audio, recordings, and stems

Imported media is copied into Tacet Player's app container. Audio conversion or compression may occur locally when you choose an import or storage option. Waveform analysis, speed and pitch processing, practice recording, and stem separation run on the device. Tacet Player does not upload those files to a Tacet server for processing.

You are responsible for having the rights needed to import, process, export, and share your files. Tacet Player does not use a file merely because it appears in Apple Music. Protected and cloud-only Apple Music items are excluded from the local-import path.

Microphone

Tacet Player asks for microphone permission only when you choose a feature that needs it, such as recording a practice take, using the tuner, or enabling live monitoring. Microphone audio is processed on the device. A recording is saved locally only when you use the recording workflow; it is not sent to Tacet or used for advertising or tracking.

You can deny or revoke microphone access in system Settings. Features that need microphone input will then be unavailable, while score reading and other non-microphone features remain usable.

Apple Music and the local Music library

With your Media & Apple Music permission, Tacet Player may:

  • Search and display items from your Music library and Apple's catalog.
  • Read subscription capabilities needed to determine whether Apple Music catalog playback is available.
  • Stream a track you select through Apple's MusicKit player.
  • Store the selected track's identifiers and display metadata locally so the reference can be restored in Recently Played, a setlist, a Show, or a backup.
  • List and copy a Music item you select only when iOS reports that it is an unprotected audio asset already available locally on the device.

Tacet Player does not change your Music library. It does not save, convert, download, export, share, analyze, or separate protected Apple Music catalog audio. An Apple Music offline download remains protected and is not an Unmix or speed and pitch input. Streaming playback, seeking, A/B loops, and system volume are handled through public Apple APIs. The streaming timeline graphic is an identity-derived reference shape, not decoded audio analysis.

MusicKit and Apple receive the requests necessary to authorize you, query the catalog or library, obtain artwork, determine playback capability, and stream the selected content. Apple, not Tacet, manages the Music account and tokens. See Apple's Privacy Policy.

iTunes Store and imported purchases

When you choose Find in iTunes Store, Tacet Player sends song and storefront metadata to Apple's public lookup service and presents an Apple StoreKit product sheet for the verified song. Apple owns the purchase interface and any purchase or payment information. Tacet Player does not know from sheet dismissal alone whether a purchase occurred.

Only after you tap Check download does Tacet read the Music library for an eligible local, unprotected copy. If one is found, the app copies it into the Tacet library. Tacet cannot initiate a Music download and does not bypass Apple's protection.

In-app purchases and the app-provided free month

Full Access purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit. Tacet Player receives product information and verified transaction or entitlement status needed to show prices, complete purchases, restore access, handle subscription status, and respond to expiration, grace period, refund, or revocation. Tacet does not receive or store your payment-card number or bank information.

On iPad, the app-provided free month is separate from an Apple subscription introductory offer. Starting it creates a local Keychain record containing its start and expiry dates. It does not create a StoreKit transaction, renew, or automatically charge.

Backups, exports, and sharing

Backups and Tacet Show or Setlist packages are created only at your request. They may contain the local library database, scores, audio, recordings, stems, annotations, settings, and reference metadata appropriate to the selected export. Apple Music references may be included as identifiers and metadata, but protected Apple Music audio is never packaged.

Exports and shares leave the app through the destination you choose, such as Files, AirDrop, Mail, another app, or a storage provider. Once shared, the destination's privacy practices and your own handling control that copy. Review an export before sharing it, especially if your notes or recordings contain personal information.

System or iCloud device backup may include app-container data according to your Apple settings and Apple's backup rules. Tacet does not operate that backup service.

Network use and third parties

The iPad app uses network services for Apple Music and MusicKit, Apple's iTunes lookup and Store product sheet, and StoreKit and App Store purchase reconciliation when you use those features. Artwork may load from Apple's mzstatic.com service. The app's legal and support links open your browser to the selected site.

Desktop distributions that offer optional audio-engine installation may download runtime software and model files from GitHub, PyPI, PyTorch, and Hugging Face and its download services. These providers receive the network requests needed to deliver those files. Installing an engine does not upload your scores, recordings, or audio for processing; the engine processes your media on your device.

Tacet Player does not include third-party advertising, cross-app tracking, or developer-operated behavioral analytics. Bundled libraries used for local rendering, audio, and on-device inference process app data locally under the app's control.

Apple may independently process account, device, transaction, network, diagnostic, and service-usage information under its own policies. Depending on your diagnostic-sharing choices and Apple's settings, Apple may provide TACET LIFE with crash reports. For the current release, we use those reports as provided, without a custom process to remove their device identifiers, only to diagnose and fix crashes. Reports can include technical app and device details and persistent device identifiers. We do not combine them with customer names or support email records, share them onward, or use them for advertising or tracking. Tacet Player has no added developer analytics SDK, and TACET LIFE does not use ongoing app-interaction or performance analytics for this release. TestFlight feedback is handled separately during beta testing and can include information a tester chooses to submit and tester details Apple makes available.

Support communications

If you contact us by email, we receive your email address, message, and any files or other information you choose to include. We use it to answer your request, provide support, protect the service, and improve Tacet. Please do not send scores, recordings, backups, or other sensitive content unless it is necessary and you are comfortable sharing it.

Retention and deletion

Local library data remains on the device until you delete individual items, empty Trash according to the selected retention period, use Clear all data, or remove the app and its data. Derived books, share and export staging files, preserved originals, recovery copies, and unused stem directories are managed by the app's cleanup and storage controls. A user-created backup or previously shared copy must be deleted separately from its destination.

Clear all data removes the app's local library records and managed score, audio, stem, book, export, and recovery data. The app removes the managed media first, commits the empty library, and then clears preserved recovery material. The device-local free-month Keychain record and Apple-managed App Store transaction history are separate stores and are not removed by this control. Deleting the app may not delete an item that iOS preserves in Keychain or any backup or export already outside the app.

Because Tacet Player has no Tacet account or server-side library, Tacet normally has no remote account data to return or delete. Support cannot erase files or backups stored only on your device or in a destination you selected. We retain support communications only as long as reasonably needed to answer the request, provide support, protect the service, improve Tacet, or meet legal obligations.

Security

Tacet Player uses the operating system's app container, Keychain, StoreKit verification, scoped file access, and input and path validation to limit access to managed data. No security measure can eliminate every risk. Protect your device and backups, and share sensitive scores, notes, or recordings only with the people you intend.

Your choices and contact

You can manage Microphone, Media & Apple Music, analytics, diagnostic-sharing, and iCloud Backup choices in system Settings. You can manage or cancel an Apple subscription through Apple.

To ask about, correct, or delete information you sent to us, or to ask a privacy or data question, email info@tacetlife.com. For general support, email hello@tacet.life.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when Tacet Player's features, providers, legal requirements, or data practices change. We will post the revised policy with a new effective date and provide an appropriate notice for material changes where required.
